We are looking for someone with extensive Public Sector BD or Client Development experience within a law firm or similar professional services organisation. You have the opportunity to join a genuinely client-centric law firm that advises many of the UK’s leading public and private sector organisations. You will be responsible for developing our most significant public sector client relationships, with a focus on central government and major blue light services. You will also influence the direction of our public sector practice.

This is a client-facing role, working with Client Relationship Partners and their client teams to develop deeper, stronger relationships and deliver profitable growth. You will be supported by a Bids Manager, Bids Executive and a Client Development Executive, as well as business services professionals from across the wider BD, FutureLaw, Knowledge Management, L&D, ED&I, Sustainability and Risk teams.

Main Responsibilities

The role - internally

  • Create and deliver an over-arching BD and marketing plan for the public sector

  • Work with Client Relationship Partners and their teams to create and deliver strategic client development plans for a small number of key clients in the public sector

  • Run regular, output-focussed client team and segment meetings to share knowledge, identify opportunities for cross-selling and plan client development activities

  • Share relationship investment, service delivery and client development best practice

  • Use the client intelligence portal and CRM system to capture client insights

  • Promote the work being done through internal communications channels

The role - externally

  • Support Client Relationship Partners and their teams by identifying and converting opportunities to grow client relationships

  • Lead on all aspects of Public Sector Panel and Framework management, ensuring the firm meets the needs of its clients and leverages the opportunities these panels present

  • Manage regular relationship reviews with clients and support the wider Client Listening Programme

  • Actively build your own network of client relationships with key contacts at the public sector clients (e.g. Panel Managers, Procurement teams, In-house lawyers, etc.)

  • Lead on major bids/panel reviews for clients and share relevant client information with those working on other proposals and sales opportunities

  • Work with our Communications team to build the firm’s profile and reputation in the Public Sector through thought-leadership campaigns, events (virtual and in-person), client insights and PR activity

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills - gains respect and credibility quickly

  • Proven track record of client management within a professional services environment

  • Public Sector knowledge/experience - Central Government, Healthcare and Defence would be advantageous

  • Experience managing major bids with an emphasis on stakeholder and project management

  • Excellent copywriting, editing and proof-reading skills with strong attention to detail

  • Enthusiastic, confident, pro-active, persistent and robust

  • Able to work well under pressure and drive through major projects to completion

  • Highly commercial and financially literate

  • Good humoured and positive outlook

  • Graduate or equivalent
